Big girl bed

At 2 years, 2 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days old, Evelyn is... sleeping in a big girl bed!

She loves it. To our surprise, the transition went very smoothly. She goes to bed with ease and never gets out of her bed. When she wakes in the morning or after her nap she calls for us to come to her room...and there she sits happily in her bed amongst all her baby dolls.

Evelyn continues to be a night owl and despite being put to bed by 8pm, she talks and sings until at least 9pm, sometimes later (it is currently 9:20pm and I can hear her carrying on a conversation with her baby dolls). No matter what we do this seems to be her natural rhythm. The best thing about her being a night owl is that she sleeps in. She is rarely up before 7:30am. It is great!

She got this great clock for Christmas that you can program to light up (soft yellow night light) when it is time for bed and turn green when it is ok to wake up and get out of bed in the morning. It is also an alarm clock and a time teaching tool. We are using it as a night light right now but we have heard from friends that it works well for reminding their children to stay in bed until the clock gives the green light.

Choo choo

We spent the morning at the Twin City Model Railroad Museum watching the trains race through tiny towns, across delicate bridges, and through a series of amazingly intricate scenes. Evelyn's jaw dropped (literally) when she saw the trains chugging along the tracks.

In the Toy Train Division there were plenty of opportunities for Evelyn to push buttons and watch the scenes come to life. The crowd favorite was the miniature amusement park, complete with a roller coaster that captured the attention of all who passed by.

Evelyn had the pleasure of being a conductor and operating a toy train. She did not hesitate to push the little engine full steam ahead. She thought that was pretty exciting...but not as fun as getting her hands on the Brio train set.

Valentine Party

We spent the morning with friends celebrating Valentine's Day a bit early. We gathered to make homemade valentines, embellish personalized mailbox, and decorate heart shaped cookies. It was lots of fun.

Evelyn hard at work making a valentine for her daddy.
Lots of art supplies for optimal creativity.
Lucy making something special for a special someone.
Whit's daddy is going to melt when he receives this sweet card from his boy.
The mailbox will soon be filled with valentines.
